All My Days

Romans 12:1-2 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Here are the lyrics to a new song we introduced this week. Thanks to the church for listening and singing along! I can’t wait for us to keep singing this one. Worship Recap: May 2013

The month of May was a powerful time in the life of our church here at Evanston Bible Fellowship. We continued our trek through the book of Proverbs, and heard powerful messages on Lying, Womanhood, Alcohol, and Sharing the Gospel. Our worship services this month focused on crying out to God to give us faith, and we begged God repeatedly this month to forgive us of our sins and make us into the kind of people He would have us be. May had several highlights for me and the EBF Worship Team. On May 5, we again did our new version of “All Creatures of Our God and King” which I wrote for a friend of mine who is struggling[…]

Envy (1 of 1)

Doug Wilson on Christian Liberty

A helpful distinction here: “The way others are to view your liberty is not the same way that you should view your liberty. Other Christians should let you do what you want unless the Bible forbids it. That’s how we guard against legalism. But you should use your liberty differently—you should be asking what the reasons are for doing it, and not what the reasons are for prohibiting it.”

Sermon Outline, 4/21/13

Here is the outline from the sermon I preached on Sunday, along with some links to further reading on these topics. I hope this is helpful! Another book that was very helpful to me in the preparation of this sermon is Tim Keller’s fantastic work, “The Meaning of Marriage”. // SERMON OUTLINE, “Playing With Fire” – Proverbs 6:20 – 7:27 •God’s Design for Marriage – 1 Man, 1 Woman, 1 Covenant, 1 Creator, 1 Lifetime (Genesis 2 & 3) •A Definition: “Adultery is the violation of your covenant marital vows by engaging in intimate behavior with someone other than your spouse.” •Three Kinds of Adultery: Physical, Emotional (including codependency), and Spiritual Playing With Fire •Using Good Words for Bad Things (for more[…]

Preparing for Sunday, 4/21/13

On Sunday at Evanston Bible Fellowship, we will continue in our series from the book of Proverbs with a sermon from Proverbs 6:20 – 7:27 entitled, “Playing With Fire.” This passage addresses adultery, and frames the discussion with words of warning rom loving parents to a foolish son, who is enticed by an outwardly beautiful woman. Things get dicey, and we move from “playing with fire” to “sifting through the ashes” of adultery. You might wonder how I know so much detail about this sermon before Sunday, and that would be because I am preaching it. So get excited! Worship on Sunday will be led by Justice, one of our gifted undergraduate leaders. He will lead from the guitar, and[…]

Preparing for Worship, 4/14/13

On Sunday, we will continue our EBF trek through Proverbs with a sermon on Proverbs 6:1-19. Pastor Jason will be bringing us a word on “six things the Lord hates, seven which are an abomination to him.” We will be encouraged to rest in the finished work of Jesus as we celebrate our Lord through singing, prayer, preaching, and giving. Our worship will celebrate God’s goodness, sovereignty, faithfulness, and glory. The team consists of two male vocals, a female vocal, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, clarinet, bass, keys, and drumset. Prelude to Revival 2013: A Retrospective

From March 10 through March 17, Evanston Bible Fellowship went through a powerful week called “Prelude to Revival,” where we met together morning and night for preaching, worship, and prayer. Our morning sessions were hosted by J.J. Java Cafe in North Evanston, and our evening sessions were hosted by our friends at Evanston Baptist. Each session featured a different preacher – 12 in all. The audio from the evening sermons are posted on our website here. We also live-streamed all of the evening worship services so that EBF’ers around the country and around the world could keep up with what we were up to! Each day had a theme. We broke down the week like this: Sunday (3/10) – Glory[…]

Worship Service Recap, 3/3/13

This past Sunday at Evanston Bible Fellowship, we brought our “Seven Deadly Sins” mini-series to a close with a sermon on Greed. This series has been a beautiful, powerful time in the life of our church. Do seek out the sermons and outlines on our website! We have had a powerful season of preaching, worship, art, and community that has set the stage well for our upcoming “Prelude to Revival” week. For our last Sunday, Priscilla, one of our gifted worship leaders, led us in music. We sang a set that demonstrated our need for God, and recognized that while we generally are greedy for the wrong things, we should be zealous for Godliness and good works. The worship team[…]

Preparing for Worship, 2/24/2013

This Sunday at Evanston Bible Fellowship we will continue in our “Seven Deadly Sins” mini-series with a sermon on Gluttony from Josh Gregersen. Josh is EBF’s Pastoral Resident, and he oversees our Ethos Communities (the missional community ministry here at EBF). Josh is a fantastic preacher, and we are excited to hear from the book of Proverbs about Gluttony. Interestingly enough, this will be Josh’s final Sunday at EBF. Beginning next week, Josh will assume a new role as Senior Pastor of a church out in Clarendon Hills, IL. Josh has been a vital part of EBF for a long time, first attending as a Northwestern student, and then interning during his time at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. For the[…]
